These large, super-sized pearls are lovely. The fact that they are mabes is what makes the big size and the South Sea mussel nacre makes them beautiful.

Mabes are basically cultured pearls that have grown attached to the shell of the mussel. The mussels most commonly used to culture mabes are the Pinctada Maxima, which are usually used to produce Saouth Sea Pearls.
